Before I went back to school to study photography I felt that I would never be comfortable shooting studio portraiture. I had convinced myself that I was primarily a Fine Art, Nature and Landscape travel photographer. Once I jumped into the study of advanced lighting techniques, being able to control the environment, I became comfortable very quickly and now I believe it is one of my strong points.
The first two images are of veterans that were part of a school project that I was privileged to organize at the VA’s Fort Worth Outpatient Clinic where I was working part-time. As I say in my “About Russ” artists statement, I want to base my photography business on service to others, especially veterans and both of these warriors exemplify the intensity I love to capture.
